October Maintenance Report for the Commons at Rowe Lane
1) Drainage improvements
Re-establishment of proper drainage thru culverts and channels, to prevent damage to trails, streets, and the prevention of flooding, has begun with the removal of sediment build-up. Work was begun on Thursday, October 10, 2013, but was halted due to heavy rainfall over the weekend. Work will resume as soon as the weather permits.
2) Removal of Beaver Lodge
The beaver lodge was originally scheduled to be dismantled and removed on Monday, October 15, 2013, weather permitting. More rain has delayed the process due to softening of the ground that will cause damage to existing landscaping. Work will be rescheduled as weather permits.
3) Elimination of pond algae and odor
Chemical treatment of pond scum and odor problems of our pond has begun, using algae eliminating chemicals provided by Earth-Smart-Solutions. All chemicals used are approved for use by all related government agencies. These chemicals are safe for consumption by humans and animals and will not harm vegetation. We performed an initial "shock" of the pond on Monday, October 7, 2013. A second shock treatment is scheduled on, or about November 4, 2013. After that treatment, monthly maintenance treatments will begin. You should begin to notice a change in clarity and a lessening in the odors in the pond area over the next few months.
4) Windmills & fountains
The District has arranged a maintenance agreement that will repair and maintain in good working order our decorative windmills and fountains. Work will begin as soon as weather permits.
